Piney Valley Golf Course is located on the Ft. Leonard Wood, MO military base. FLW is primarily an Army base but also provides training for the other major branches. To gain access to Piney Valley, guests need a pass that can be obtained at the visitor’s center right before the entrance check point. The course itself is well manicured, like a private’s haircut, is long (from the blue and white tees) and mostly flat. The only hills are leading to/from the clubhouse. The medium-size greens are in excellent condition, roll true and have minimal break. The fairways have thick zoysia and your ball will sit up very nicely. The fairways do, however, have a few bare spots. The roughs are a bit patchy but are kept at a reasonable length. The tee boxes’ grasses are also in excellent condition. Piney Valley has a lot going for it, particularly if you like golf courses that do not have a lot of flash but provide a good meat and potato golf experience at a very reasonable price.
