Blue Springs Golf Club in Blue Springs/Kansas City, MO was like an old shoe. It just felt comfortable to play there. It is not the most pristine course in the area, but it is definitely a playable old school course and the new owners, Great Life, and its Superintendent, Eric Brown, are make great strides in bringing the course back to its former glory. Like many old school country clubs, particularly in more rural areas, BSGC is built on a square plot of land with the holes laid out in a back and forth design. In fact, holes 1 and 10 tees are right in front of the club house and run parallel to each other and 9 and 18 return to the club house, just to the outside of 1 and 10. The course really is the quintessential old school golf course design. The greens and tee boxes were in good shape and the Zoysia fairways were mostly good with a few areas in need of TLC. The greens were fairly large and were surprisingly smooth with some significant breaks. All in all, Blue Springs Golf Club is a great community course and one I would enjoy playing on a regular basis. A special call out to the club pro, Spencer Ellsperman, who was very accommodating.
