Designed by Gary Player, Tapawingo National Golf Club is one of the nicest and most popular public courses in St. Louis. Each of the 9 holes have a different look and personality. Tough course but fun. Since most holes are not contiguous to other holes, there will be plenty of opportunities to lose a few balls. The greens are in excellent condition for the most part and there are varying distances of tees for all levels. It is definitely one of the more challenging courses in St. Louis. I did a spit take when I saw this course ranked as the “#5 public course in Missouri.”
What an absolute joke. The routing of this course is pure amateur hour – dogleg par fours that dogleg at 160 yards off the tee, power lines everywhere, pointless forced carries with no strategic elements to them, a public street (!) bisecting the approach of a par four. There are a couple of holes on the flat part of the course where the better play off the tee is the “wrong” side of a lake into another hole’s fairway. Not to mention every other year they have to close 8-10 holes due to flooding.
It’s pure goofy golf. I love Gary Player as a human being, but the man cannot design his way out of a paper bag.
I can’t take any “reviews” on this site seriously after their take on this infantile course.
