After having not played Algonquin Golf Club in about 20 years, the course was much better than I remembered. While the course is narrow and fairly short, it is well laid out and you will not feel claustrophobic. As opposed to many courses with limited space, AGC has a driving range . . . and swimming pool . . . and tennis courts . . . and nice club house. The club, however, was still not able to lay the course out to avoid any blind shots to the green. But, even one of the premier courses in St. Louis, St. Louis Country Club, has a couple of blind approach shots, so AGC is in good company. The course is in spectacular condition. All tees, fairways and roughs were in excellent condition and the blue grass roughs were beautiful and mowed to a medium length, so that lost balls, and slower play, will be kept to a minimum. The medium sized-greens too are in stellar condition, have medium complexity with undulation and roll true, even if they are a bit slow. Even the bunkers were well manicured and edged. The layout of the course (short distance from greens to tees) is conducive to walking, however, the fairly steep hills will make it a bit more challenging of a walk. Overall, AGC is a first-class private club and, if you live in the area, you have two wonderful choices of clubs from which to choose, AGC and WCC.
Why would they allow some two-bit reviewer with typos all over his website to play at their exclusive and expensive club? If that’s all it took any schmuck with a blog could get on anywhere.
I don’t blame them one bit.
MoBoiler, thank you for the comment and the compliment . . . the last guy called me a “one-bit reviewer.”
When you see typos please let me know. I, too, hate typos.
Even though I am a two-bit reviewer if I was a course GM, public or private, I would roll out the red carpet for someone like me, particularly since the review of my course will live on the world wide web for years. And, the SEO of our site is quite good. If you search “reviews of Missouri golf courses” MoGolfTour.com will likely be number 1. And, if you search “best golf course in (almost any city in Missouri),” MoGolfTour.com will show up on the first page. Plus, MoGolfTour.com receives thousands of visits every month from golfers from around the world. As the old adage says why “cut off one’s nose to spite one’s face?”
Hit ’em long and straight MoBoiler.
